Inman Park Festival & Tour of Homes

Each year at the end of April, the Inman Park Spring Festival and Tour Of Homes ushers in a new season in one of Atlanta’s most scenic neighborhoods.

Inman Park was developed in the 1800s as a green oasis of stately homes, just east of the city’s center. Today, it retains much of its Victorian charm and leafy ambiance, but also attracts Atlanta residents and tourists to a lively and growing restaurant, cafe and bar scene. This year, the 48tth Annual Inman Park Festival kicks off with the Atlanta Tour of Homes preview on April 24, and a full schedule of events continuing on both Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th. The festival offers fun for the entire family while shining a light on Atlanta’s rich heritage in one of its most vibrant neighborhoods.

Inman Park Festival Parade

A long-standing celebratory focal point for the festival is the Parade, which takes place on Saturday at 2 pm, rain or shine. Known for its wild costumes and community spirit, the parade features colorful and creatively attired marching bands and community groups, including street theatrics from the Seed and Feed Marching Abominables community band. The funky procession begins at Edgewood and Euclid and runs to Austin Avenue at the foot of Little Five Points. Parking along this route is scarce, so the festival suggests visitors use Uber or Lyft on parade day. Other travel options for Festival-goers include public transportation (Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station), or cycling (with free and secure valet bike parking provided by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition during the weekend festivities).

Inman Park Tour of Homes

The Atlanta Tour of Homes is an annual draw for designers, architecture and history buffs and DIY renovators from all over Georgia. It’s a self-conducted tour of some lovingly restored historic Victorian and Craftsman bungalows and mansions, with a few modern gems thrown in for good measure. Visitors can get decorating ideas, inspiration, and advice from homeowners and designers, and come away with a new appreciation for Atlanta’s architectural heritage. The tour takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival weekend (a list of homes will be published on the festival website).

Tickets for the Home Tour

Advance tickets for the tour are $20 ($25 on the day of the event) and are available on the festival website or at participating retailers. Children under the age of 12 can accompany adult ticket holders free of charge.

Music and Dance

An eclectic array of music acts on multiple outdoor stages is one of the Festival’s hallmark programming features. From jazz to indie alternative and everything in between, music buffs can get their dance on while enjoying a beer and soaking up the festival vibes. Also, for the 17th consecutive year, contemporary and classical dance gets star billing at the Festival with performances by some of Atlanta’s leading companies. This year, participating troupes include Atlanta Ballet Centre Theatre, Ballethnic, students from the Emory University Movement Studies Program, Full Radius Dance, and Georgia Ballet. Shows take place on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at 4:00 pm in the Trolley Barn at 963 Edgewood Avenue and are free of charge.

Arts and Crafts

If you love local artists and one-of-a-kind hand-crafted goods, we think you’ll have a great time in the Arts & Crafts Market at the 2019 Inman Park Festival. Here, a jury-selected group of more than 150 artists showcase work in a variety of media including sculpture, painting, and photography. Even though there is a jury, much of the art is available for purchase. More “shopportunities” can be found in the Street Market – it is home to more than 250 vendor booths selling antiques, handcrafted wares, clothing, gourmet consumables and a variety of other items. Finally, the Festival serves as a gathering place for community groups who set up booths to share and explain their services in the Intown Atlanta neighborhoods.

Food

The Inman Park Festival features on-site food trucks and street grub vendors galore. If you’re new to the area, don’t miss a chance to sample local heroes King of Pops, Southern purveyors of small-batch popsicles in wild flavor combinations. As a bona fide foodie destination, the wider Inman Park neighborhood also features a range of snack, drink and meal options with many establishments getting into the Festival spirit to offer special menus and tasting events. Be sure to check out the popular Krog Street Market for market stalls, cooking goods retailers and Southern cuisine eating establishments, all housed in a converted 1920s warehouse.

Kid’s Zone (aka the Little Gnome Zone)

Ground zero for children’s fun at the Inman Park Festival is the neighborhood’s sprawling Springvale Park and the dedicated Festival Kid’s Zone. Here kids and their grownups can blow off steam with slides, toys rides, and a great playground. Not to mention crafting activities, story-telling, kid’s yoga, and a circus camp. Kids’ Zone hours are from 11 am until 6 pm on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 and all activities are free. There’s definitely something for everyone at the annual Inman Park Spring Festival! No wonder it’s one of Atlanta’s most admired and longstanding street festivals. Admission to all Festival events, excepting the Tour of Homes, is free. Tour of Homes tickets can be purchased online for $20 in advance, $25 starting Friday, April 26. Event details, updates, and highlights can be found on the Inman Park Festival’s website.
