Located in the heart of Downtown Decatur, Clairemont Elementary is one of four City of Decatur elementary schools, serving students from Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Decatur's 4th and 5th grade students attend the new 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue, an International Baccalaureate School, in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur. From there, students added Renfroe Middle School (also an International Baccalaureate Schools Organisation) and Decatur High School.

In 2011, Clairemont Elementary was one of 26 schools in Georgia named a Georgia School of Excellence in Student Achievement.
