Eat Local – Intown Atlanta Farmer’s Markets

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

More and more Atlantans are starting to ”eat local” and every month it seems that there is a new neighborhood farmer’s market popping up. .

I think everyone would agree that the ”best of the best” is the Dekalb Farmer’s Market just outside of Downtown Decatur.  With food and wine from around the globe, it’s an experience just walking in the building!  The Dekalb market is open 7 days a week, similar to a typical grocery store.

If you would like to eat hyper-local, the new trend in many of the Intown Atlanta neighorhoods is to host their own Farmer’s Market.  Here are just a few…

*  Piedmont Park – every Saturday

East Atlanta – every Thursday

Glenwood Park (near East ATL Village and Ormewood Park) – Every other weekend

Morningside Farmers Market – every Saturday

East Lake – every Saturday

Decatur Organic Market – every Wednesday, March thru November

Peachtree Road Market (Buckhead) - every Saturday, April – December

This weekend, try to get out, meet your neighbors and support your local farmers — it’s a great way to start the day!

George’s Midtown Atlanta Condo Sold in 8 Days!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

CONGRATS, GEORGE!Midtown Atlanta condos

When I first met with my client, I have to say that I was a bit apprehensive… he wanted to sell his studio condo in Midtown and according to the sales data, not ONE studio condominium had sold in Midtown in more than a year.

I knew that we had a fighting chance if we developed a solid strategy – pricing it correctly (the first time), executing a time-tested marketing plan with a bit of creativity sprinkled in, and my client’s knack for staging his home to sell.

On the 7th day, we received a FULL PRICE offer and the rest is history!

This upscale condo is in the PERFECT Midtown Atlanta location and features period-style details with all the modern amenities.  The bathroom and kitchen were recently updated and include recessed lighting, tile counters and a breakfast bar.  The condo is actually a studio, but the (very clever) seller uses the dining room as a bedroom.

This home also has LOW HOA dues, offers lots of storage, including a separate storage room in the basement.  Seller also purchased a parking space, so that is included in the exceptional purchase price of $124,900.

Magic Johnson investing $50M in “12th & Midtown”

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and partner Bobby Turner are investing more than $50 million in the planned “12th & Midtown” development, and plan to increase their investments in Midtown Atlanta, according to Turner.

The partners’ Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund L.P., the largest private equity fund in the country focused on urban revitalization, has invested in Plaza Midtown, and now 12th & Midtown — and that’s just the beginning.

“We are not stopping here,” said Turner, managing partner of the Los Angeles-based firm, which has about $1 billion in capital commitments in “high-density,” “ethnically diverse” communities.

Turner said Atlanta fits that investment profile, as well as Canyon-Johnson’s additional criteria — that the communities in which the fund invests have strong leadership as well as local development partners interested in “enhancing the quality of life” along with investors’ returns.

“Shirley Franklin epitomizes the great leadership,” said Turner, who added members of his firm visit Atlanta about every other month, and each time Franklin makes her entire economic development team available.  “Magic is very good friends with, and adores, Mayor Franklin,” he added.

Daniel Corp. and Selig Enterprises Inc. also satisfy the fund’s partnering criteria — that local partners be interested in the “double bottom line” of community improvement as well as financial returns.  “They are our go-to guys in Atlanta,” Turner said.

Of course, Atlanta’s growing population also plays a role in Canyon-Johnson’s interest.
“Investing in Atlanta is investing in the future of America,” he added, “because that’s where the growth is going to be.”
