Why the current owners LOVE 3024 Whispering Hills Drive
Literally one minute off I-85, 20 minutes to downtown. Brookhaven is 5 minutes down Dresden Dr, and Buckhead is less than 10 minutes away. It’s Also 20 minutes to Sandy Springs, 20 minutes to Suwanne. Basically wherever you want to go in Atlanta, you’re 20 minutes or less away.
2. Grocery Stores
Publix is a mile down the road, alongside the best coffee house in Atlanta, Chocolatte. And Walmart and Lowes are 5 minutes away, and there’s never any traffic where we are. Ever. I’m really going to miss it!
3. Marta Rail Station
You can easily walk to the bus stop here if you want to (it’s at the end of our street), but it’s even better to drive 2 miles down the road to the Chamblee Rail station, park your car, and take the Marta train downtown to the airport, to work, or to the Dome for Falcons games. So even though there is rarely traffic while heading downtown from this direction, you don’t even have to deal with any traffic at all if you don’t want to.
4. Parks & Walking
Two beautiful parks, Shallowford Park and Dresden Park are within easy walking distance of our house. Also this is a neighborhood where LOTS of people walk their dogs, or just take evening strolls throughout the neighborhood after dinner.
This is a neighborhood where everyone knows who everyone is (lots of people who also keep an eye on your home when out of town), and has a very involved Civic Association, called Dresden East Civic Association.
6. Huge Backyard
Obviously, It is big enough to do anything you want out there, and the grass stays green with no sprinkler system, watering, or maintenance whatsoever besides mowing. Perfect for dogs.
7. Large, Mature trees
This property, and the neighborhood, has an extensive network of mature trees that provide lots of shade, which in turn keeps the house shaded and our AC bill low. The shade also makes the deck usable during all months of the year, as opposed to many houses where you can’t play in the backyard during the summer for more than 5 minutes because you’ll fry like an egg on the sidewalk.
8. One level, indoor/outdoor living
One of the things that attracted us to this house when we moved here was the fact that everything was one level, including the deck. It is the same level as the living/dining room, and there are only a couple stairs that lead down from the deck to the grass.
9. Whole Home Media Center
There is a media distribution center and an Ethernet jack in each room for whole-home networking. This means you have a strong enough connection here to watch TV through Windows Media Center, instead of using Comcast cable. We hate Comcast. We also have an antennae installed in the attic (that is staying with the house) that allows you to get over-the-air channels with no cable provider or cable access whatsoever.
This connection also means that if you choose to have a cable box through Comcast or whoever, you only need one for the entire house, which is much cheaper than getting one for each room. Incidentally, we have also installed shelving in half of the coat closet next to the TV to hold all this media equipment such as cable boxes, scanner/printer, xbox, shredder, etc so that it is out of sight, neatly tucked behind a door. We also installed a ventilation fan in there so sensitive equipment will not overheat. We also have in-wall rear speakers installed.
10. Low property taxes
We are in unincorporated DeKalb county, so taxes here are very low.
